The ipod shuffle 1st and 2nd generation are very much alike. The first generation shuffle only comes in white and looks like a flash drive. The 2nd generation ipod shuffle comes in several different colors and memory sizes. The currently availible memory sizes are 1gb and 2gb. The ipod shuffles comes in red, blue, green, purple and silver.

The older ipod shuffle came in 2 memory sizes 512 mb, and 1 gb. It plugged into the computer directly without the need for a cable and could be used as a flash drive. The device can either hold 125 songs or 250 if you have a one gigabyte version.
